KELP BOWLS
Living by the sea and looking at the rock pools, kelp and seaweed caught in the rocks inspired me to create these bowls.
I used kelp collected from Balnakeil Beach in Durness to create these bowls. I rolled out some very thick red earthenware in to a slab and pressed the kelp in to the clay. Then I moulded the clay around a ball to give it a bowl shape. After this it was left to dry before being bisque fired, glazed and then fired again.

PAPER CLAY PAGES
Black paper clay reminded me of the peat that is cut up here in the Highlands. This inspired me to create pages that resemble peat cuttings.
First I mixed shredded paper and water and then added dry clay powder to form it in to a good consistency to work with. The soft mix is spread on to a bisque fired tile and left to dry. Once it has dried it loosens from the edges and can be peeled off, leaving a thin page. Once it is dry it is bisque fired and then I used ceramic pen/slip to create the patterns. Finally it is fired again before being mounted on to wood so that they can hang on the wall.

THE EGGSimply inspired by birds eggs seen outside and I thought it would be fun to make!
The egg was hand coiled using white earthenware. Once it had dried a bit I smoothed it over and bisque fired it. I treated it with a copper wash before firing it again.

THE ANCIENT VESSELInspired by seeing wooden boats left out for repair and abandoned old vessels.
This was slab built using stoneware. When it was leather hard I carved the patterns in to the clay and put on a clay slip that I sourced locally. Once that had dried it was bisque fired, partly glazed and then fired again.

THE BOATThe idea came to me from driving along the coast to places such as Ullapool where there are many boats.
This was built using slabs of red earthenware, left to dry, bisque fired and glazed using moon glaze before being fired again. The stands were made separately so that the boat can be removed from the stands.

PAPER CLAY BOWLThis was made using white paper clay (shredded paper, water & white clay powder mixed in to a paste). It was then moulded over a ball to create the bowl shape, dried and bisque fired. Finally it was glazed and then fired again.

LICHEN BOWLThis was made using black paper clay (the same process as with the paper clay pages). It was shaped over another flat bowl then left to dry before being fired. Finally it was glazed using moon glaze and fired again.

BIRDSI wanted create something unique and cute for the garden. These were partly thrown on the wheel using stoneware and then cut, shaped and assembled in to a bird. After being left to dry they were bisque fired, glazed and then fired again. They now live in my sisters garden in Austria.

MOON PLATEThis was thrown on the wheel using stoneware and slipped with a locally sourced clay slip. Once it was dry it was bisque fired, glazed and then fired again.
